Number of people

300 g rump steak (or other piece of beef)

6 tablespoons peanut oil

20 basil leaves, 10 of which are chopped

2 tablespoons nuoc mam

1 teaspoon brown sugar

1 fresh red pepper, cut into thin rings

3 cloves of garlic, chopped

1 teaspoon chopped fresh ginger

Lemon juice

Step 1
Heat the oil in a wok.
Step 2
When it is hot, brown the whole basil leaves for about one minute, until they are golden and crispy.
Step 3
Drain them on absorbent paper, remove the wok from the heat and leave the equivalent of two tablespoons of oil in the wok.

Cut the rump into thin slices.
Step 5
In a bowl, combine the nuoc mam sauce and sugar.

Stir the beef into the mixture, mix well and marinate for about half an hour.
Step 7
Heat the wok, sauté the chilli, garlic, ginger and garlic.

Add the beef, chopped basil and cook for about 3 to 5 minutes.

Season with lemon juice and salt and pepper.

Serve with the golden basil leaves as a decoration.
