  • Microplane or grater (for fresh ginger)

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • ½ cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • ¼ cup packed brown sugar
  • ½ cup beef broth
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1- inch fresh ginger grated
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch + 1 tbsp water mixed as slurry
  • 1 tsp toasted sesame oil
  • 3 green onions sliced
  • ¼ tsp red pepper flakes optional

Optional Add-Ins:

  • Steamed broccoli
  • Julienned carrots or snap peas
  • Sesame seeds for garnish

Instructions

  • Brown the ground beef in a skillet over medium-high heat, breaking it up as it cooks. Drain excess grease.
  • Add garlic and ginger to the pan; cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  • Stir in soy sauce, brown sugar, and broth. Simmer gently and scrape up any browned bits.
  • Mix cornstarch and water in a small bowl. Add slurry to the pan and stir until sauce thickens.
  • Turn off heat, drizzle in sesame oil, and add red pepper flakes if using.
  • Garnish with green onions and serve hot over rice or toss with noodles.

Notes

To keep the salt balanced, use low-sodium soy sauce. For a fun twist, add veggies like broccoli or snap peas toward the end of cooking.
