Wooden spoon or potato masher
Fine-mesh strainer (optional)
Heat-safe jar or container
- 2 cups blueberries fresh or frozen
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup water
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- Pinch of salt
Optional (Add for extra flavor):
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- ¼ teaspoon maple extract
- 1 cinnamon stick
Add blueberries, sugar, water, and salt to a saucepan and stir to combine.
Heat over medium until bubbling, then lower heat and simmer gently for 5–6 minutes.
Mash the berries with a spoon for a thicker texture.
Stir in lemon juice and simmer 1–2 more minutes.
Strain if desired, or leave chunky.
Cool for 10 minutes, then store in a jar and refrigerate.
Strain for a silky texture, or leave the berry bits for a more rustic spoonable version. Frozen or fresh blueberries both work beautifully.
