Ingredients
  

  • lb steak sirloin, flank, or chuck, sliced ¾-inch thick
  • 2 Tbsp olive oil
  • 1 medium onion thinly sliced
  • 4 garlic cloves minced
  • 1 28 oz can crushed tomatoes
  • ½ cup beef broth
  • 1 Tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • ¼ tsp red pepper flakes
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • ¼ cup fresh basil torn

Optional Add-Ins:

  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 1 cup bell pepper strips

Instructions
 

  • Pat steak dry and season with salt and pepper.
  • Sear in olive oil for 2 minutes per side; set aside.
  • Cook onions until soft, then stir in garlic for 30 seconds.
  • Add tomato paste; cook 1 minute.
  • Pour in tomatoes, broth, oregano, pepper flakes, and salt.
  • Bring to simmer; stir and scrape up browned bits.
  • Return steak to sauce; cover and simmer 10–12 minutes.
  • Stir in basil, adjust seasoning, and serve hot.
